a CrV bis-chelate that then slowly converts into species with CrV
bound to the 5,6-diolato moiety of its furanose form. The selective
C1–C2 bond cleavage of Glc3Me upon reaction with high valent
chromium in acid medium, distinguishes the 3-OMe derivative
from glucose that, under the same experimental conditions, is oxi-
dized to the gluconic acid at comparable rate [10].
