The hydrothermolysis of cellobiose in the range 180-249 deg C has been studied.Kinetic analysis of the reaction showed that 60percent of the cellobiose is converted into D-glucose, and 40percent into other products.The rate (k1) of cellobiose disintegration is approximately eight times that (k2) of D-glucose.Thus, hydrothermolysis differs from acidic hydrolysis.Hydrothermolysis is not dependent on pH, at least in the range 3-7.
