exchange interaction found in complex 1. On the other hand, the
extension of nuclearity has not been possible for complex 2 prob-
ably due to the greater steric hindrance of the ethoxy group (as
compared to the methoxy one) which restricts the binding of a
second copper (II) ion in the outer O4 compartment of the ligand.
Nevertheless, the mononuclear unit in complex 2 exhibits interest-
ing inclusion properties and encapsulates a water molecule in the
external cavity through hydrogen-bonding interactions. Overall,
here we have presented a comparative study on the formation,
structural aspects and properties of two very different complexes
(1 and 2) derived from two very similar ligands.
