Carbenes and silylenes with a variety of substituents have been isolated and characterized in low temperature matrices.Reactions of these species with small molecules, especially ³O2, have been studied.The structure of the primary addition products as well as the reactivity as a function of the spin-state (triplet T or singlet S) is discussed.
