There were found to be another possible way producing benzonitrile in the reaction of PhI with Me3SnCN in the presence of Pd(PPh3)4, beside the ordinary one involving the oxidative addition of PhI to the Pd complex.Thus, the complexation of Pd complex with Me3SnCN gives a new complex n which reacts with PhI giving PhCN.This path is much faster than the former, but cannot make a catalytic cycle, because the palladium deposits during the reaction of the complex with PhI.
