the electron-donating TTF part to the fluorene part occurred when
the fluorene part was irradiated. The photoelectrochemical
measurements indicate that cathodic photocurrents can be
generated from the spin-coated thin film of 1–3 on ITO electrode.
We think that the synthesized donors can be considered as
candidates for photoelectric current conversion materials.

absorbance of the thin film used and the power of irradiated
light [18]. The observed positive photocurrents suggest that the
electron transfers from the conduction band of ITO electrode
(ꢀ4.5 V) to the hole generated on molecule 1–3. Very low
photoelectric conversion efficiency of 1 in comparison to those
of 2, 3 suggests that the planar molecular structures of molecules
2,3 having alkene-spacers may be favorable to have good contacts
with the surface of the ITO electrode in order to cause an effective
electron transfer process upon irradiation, compared to the

3. Conclusion

We synthesized new TTF derivatives 1–3 in which TTF part
connects to a fluorene part through several kinds of spacers.
Almost complete quenching of fluorescence of the fluorene part
suggests that the intramolecular electron transfer process from
