voltage shifts the EL relative to the PL. The formation
of exiplex at the interface regions which light intensity
is voltage dependent may be suggested.48 Another
reason is a possible modification of the polymer struc-
ture under high electrical fields. The CIE coordinates
were calculated from the obtained EL spectra and are
presented in Table 5. For comparison, NTSC require-

Con clu sion
In summary, four copolymers of 3,4-ethylenedioxy-
thiophene and of pyridine containing regularly inserted
fluorene or phenylene units were synthesized by the
Suzuki cross-coupling reaction and characterized. The
four copolymers showed good solubility in common
organic solvents and are thermally stable up to 375 °C.
They also exhibit strong blue photoluminescence emis-
sion. Devices prepared using these polymers ITO/
PEDOT/PSSA/polymer/Ba/Al gave yellow or greenish
electroluminescence.
