Starting from a judiciously substituted N-aminoindole, the Heck reaction led to new classes of heterocyclic compounds: the pyrido<2',3'-d'>pyridazino<2,3-a>indoles 7 and 8 and the pyrido<2',3'-d'>diazepino<1,6,7-h,i>indole 15.From compound 7 the pentacyclic E-azaeburnane 21 was prepared.
