The macrocyclic "benzyne" 3 was trapped with furan and several annelated furans.The adducts were deoxygenated by Fe2(CO)9 in a fast route to yield several new annelated dihydropyrenes.Molecular mechanics calculations indicate that the strain energy of 3 is similar to benzyne.
