Intermetallic compounds AB (A = La, Sm; B =
Ni, Co) are used as metal hydride accumulators of
hydrogen and for production of permanent magnets
of ammonium chloride (10 wt% with respect to the
amount of the intermetallic compound).

As determined by chemical analysis, the chlorine
content in the hydronitriding product decreased from

ethanol and then to 0.9% after boiling for 10 min in
water. The nitrogen content in the sample decreased
to 1.6% (0.5% nitrogen loss) after this treatment.
