Fluorescence quenching

When a molecule undergoes binding with another molecule, such as fluoride ions, the fluorescence of the fluorophore can be quenched. The extent of quenching can provide information about the strength and nature of the interaction. In the case of hydrogen bonding with fluoride, you would expect to see a decrease in fluorescence intensity as the hydrogen bond formation occurs.
