Preparation of Manganese(ii) oxide: it can be prepared by manganese dioxide and hydrogen. The equation as follows: MnO₂ + H₂→ MnO + H₂O. The manganese dioxide can also react with carbon henoxide to give manganese(ii) oxide. The equation as follows: MnO₂+ CO → MnO + CO₂. It can also be prepared by heating MnCO₃ in vacuo: MnCO₃ → MnO + CO₂.

Uses of Manganese(ii) oxide: Together with manganese sulfate, it is a component of fertilizer and feed additives. It is used for the production of ferrite materials, paints and desiccant varnishes, catalyst for amyl alcohol production, feed auxiliary agent and trace element such as fertilizer. Also it can be used in medicine, metallurgy, welding, printing and dyeing fabric, glass coloring, oil bleaching, porcelain ceramic, and the manufacture of dry batteries and so on.
