A deadly poison by intravenous and intraperitoneal routes. Human systemic effects by intravenous route: metabolic changes in potassium level, cardiac arrythmias. Mutation data reported. Used as a skeletal muscle relaxant. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of NOx, NH3, and Cl−.
