General Description

5-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-benzofuran-1(3H)-one is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C9H8O3. It is a derivative of benzofuran and is commonly known as 5-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin. 5-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-benzofuran-1(3H)-one is a naturally occurring substance found in a variety of plants, including the tonka bean and woodruff. It is often used in perfumery and flavoring due to its sweet, vanilla-like aroma. Additionally, 5-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-benzofuran-1(3H)-one has been investigated for its potential antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, as well as its ability to inhibit blood clot formation.
