A novel synthesis of condensed 3-cyanopyridine-2(1H)-thiones and condensed carbocyclic nitrile derivatives utilizing arylmethylene(cyano)thioacetamides and cycloalkylidenemalononitriles or arylmethylenemalononitriles and cycloalkylidene(cyano)thioacetamides as starting components is described.
