A Facile FeCl3/I2-Catalyzed Aerobic Oxidative Coupling Reaction: Synthesis of Tetrasubstituted Imidazoles from Amidines and Chalcones

Zhu, Yuelu,Li, Cheng,Zhang, Jidong,She, Mengyao,Sun, Wei,Wan, Kerou,Wang, Yaqi,Yin, Bin,Liu, Ping,Li, Jianli

, p. 3872 - 3875 (2015)

A facile and efficient route for the synthesis of tetrasubstituted imidazoles from amidines and chalcones via FeCl3/I2-catalyzed aerobic oxidative coupling has been developed. This new strategy is featured by high regioselectivity an

Palladium-Catalyzed Synthesis of α-Methyl Ketones from Allylic Alcohols and Methanol

Biswal, Priyabrata,Samser, Shaikh,Meher, Sushanta Kumar,Chandrasekhar, Vadapalli,Venkatasubbaiah, Krishnan

supporting information, p. 413 - 419 (2021/11/01)

One-pot synthesis of α-methyl ketones starting from 1,3-diaryl propenols or 1-aryl propenols and methanol as a C1 source is demonstrated. This one-pot isomerization-methylation is catalyzed by commercially available Pd(OAc)2 with H2O as the only by-product. Mechanistic studies and deuterium labelling experiments indicate the involvement of isomerization of allyl alcohol followed by methylation through a hydrogen-borrowing pathway in these isomerization-methylation reactions.

Selective C-C bonds formation, N-alkylation and benzo[d]imidazoles synthesis by a recyclable zinc composite

Zhu, Guanxin,Duan, Zheng-Chao,Zhu, Haiyan,Ye, Dongdong,Wang, Dawei

supporting information, p. 266 - 270 (2021/08/06)

Earth abundant metals are much less expensive, promising, valuable metals and could be served as catalysts for the borrowing hydrogen reaction, dehydrogenation and heterocycles synthesis, instead of noble metals. The uniformly dispersed zinc composites were designed, synthesized and carefully characterized by means of XPS, EDS, TEM and XRD. The resulting zinc composite showed good catalytic activity for the N-alkylation of amines with amines, ketones with alcohols in water under base-free conditions, while unsaturated carbonyl compounds could also be synthesized by tuning the reaction conditions. Importantly, it was the first time to realize the synthesis of 2-aryl-1H-benzo[d]imidazole derivatives by using this zinc composite under green conditions. Meanwhile, this zinc catalyst could be easily recovered and reused for at least five times.

Substituent-Controlled Divergent Cascade Cycloaddition Reactions of Chalcones and Arylalkynols: Access to Spiroketals and Oxa-Bridged Fused Heterocycles

Chang, Weixing,Kong, Jingyang,Li, Jing,Liu, Lingyan,Wang, Hongkai,Zeng, Tianlong

supporting information, p. 4024 - 4032 (2021/07/12)

Herein, we report substituent-controlled divergent cascade cycloaddition reactions of chalcones and arylalkynols in the presence of PtI2. Depending on the substituent on the chalcone, either spiroketals or oxa-bridged fused heterocycles could be obtained in the ranges of 86–97% and 87–95% yields under identical reaction conditions. Control experiments were carried out to elucidate the origin of the high chemoselectivity. These provide a method for the synthesis of a diverse array of structurally complex oxygen-containing heterocycles. (Figure presented.).

Asymmetric Enamide–Imine Tautomerism in the Kinetic Resolution of Tertiary Alcohols

Gu, Huanchao,He, Shunlong,Rajkumar, Subramani,Tang, Mengyao,Yang, Xiaoyu

supporting information, p. 21334 - 21339 (2021/08/23)

An efficient protocol for kinetic resolution of tertiary alcohols has been developed through an unprecedented asymmetric enamide-imine tautomerism process enabled by chiral phosphoric acid catalysis. A broad range of racemic 2-arylsulfonamido tertiary allyl alcohols could be kinetically resolved with excellent kinetic resolution performances (with s-factor up to >200). This method is particularly effective for a series of 1,1-dialkyl substituted allyl alcohols, which produced chiral tertiary alcohols that would be difficult to access via other asymmetric methods. Facile and versatile transformations of the chiral α-hydroxy imine and enamide products, especially the efficient stereodivergent synthesis of all four stereoisomers of β-amino tertiary alcohols using one enantiomer of the catalyst, demonstrated the value of this kinetic resolution method.

Green method for high-selectivity synthesis of chalcone compounds

-

Paragraph 0035-0038, (2021/10/02)

Under the condition of air, the water-soluble inorganic weak base is used as a catalyst to catalyze the hydrogen transfer reaction of the propargyl alcohol compound, so that the green synthesis of the high-trans selective chalcone compound is realized. Reaction temperature: 80 - 120 °C and reaction time 12 - 48 hours. To the technical scheme, any transition metal catalyst and ligand do not need to be used, inert gas protection is not needed, no other byproducts are generated, the atom economy 100%, green and environment friendliness are avoided, and the product is a high-selectivity (E)-type product. The reaction conditions are relatively low in requirement. Compared with the prior art, the alkali catalyst is obvious in advantages, and has a certain application prospect in the fields of organic synthesis, biochemistry, medicine and the like.

Iridium and copper supported on silicon dioxide as chemoselective catalysts for dehydrogenation and borrowing hydrogen reactions

Zhu, Guanxin,Duan, Zheng-Chao,Zhu, Haiyan,Qi, Minghui,Wang, Dawei

, (2021/04/02)

High active ligand usually plays an important role during catalysis and synthesis chemistry. A new and efficient benzotriazole-pyridinyl-silane ligand (BPS) was designed, and the corresponding iridium and copper catalysts were synthesized and thoroughly characterized by means of EDS, TEM, and XPS. The resulting iridium composite revealed excellent catalytic activity for the reaction of tert-butanesulfinamide with benzyl alcohols, while copper catalyst could realize the synthesis of unsaturated carbonyl compounds through the reaction of benzyl alcohols with ketones. This provided an efficient method for selective synthesis of unsaturated carbonyl compounds from benzyl alcohols and ketones in high yields with good recovery performance.

DBU-Catalyzed Rearrangement of Secondary Propargylic Alcohols: An Efficient and Cost-Effective Route to Chalcone Derivatives

De, Rimpa,Savarimuthu, Antony,Ballav, Tamal,Singh, Pijush,Nanda, Jayanta,Hasija, Avantika,Chopra, Deepak,Bera, Mrinal K.

, p. 1587 - 1592 (2020/08/28)

A 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU)-catalyzed rearrangement of diarylated secondary propargylic alcohols to give α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds has been developed. The typical 1,3-transposition of oxy functionality, characteristic of Mayer-Schuster rearrangements, is not observed in this case. A broad substrate scope, functional-group tolerance, operational simplicity, complete atom economy, and excellent yields are among the prominent features of the reaction. Additionally, the photophysical properties and crystal-structure-packing behavior of selected compounds were investigated and found to be of interest.

Iodine-catalyzed α,β-dehydrogenation of ketones and aldehydes generating conjugated enones and enals

Cao, Yuanjie,Chen, Tieqiao,Huang, Tianzeng,Liu, Long

, p. 8697 - 8701 (2020/06/08)

A transition metal-free α,β-dehydrogenation of ketones and aldehydes was developed. This reaction was conducted in a facile I2/KI/DMSO system to produce the corresponding unsaturated compounds in good to high yields. The gram-scale experiment also indicated the potential synthetic value of this new reaction in organic synthesis. In the reaction, DMSO acted as both solvent and mild oxidant.

Naphtho[2,3-: B] furan-4,9-dione synthesis via palladium-catalyzed reverse hydrogenolysis

Li, Jimei,Zhang, Jie,Li, Mingfei,Zhang, Chenyang,Yuan, Yongkun,Liu, Renhua

supporting information, p. 2348 - 2351 (2019/02/27)

A reverse hydrogenolysis process has been developed for two-site coupling of 2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinones with olefins to produce naphtha[2,3-b]furan-4,9-diones and hydrogen (H2). The reaction is catalyzed by commercially available Pd/C without oxidants and hydrogen acceptors, thereby providing an intrinsically waste-free approach for the synthesis of functionalized and potentially biologically relevant naphtha[2,3-b]furan-4,9-diones.
