The present invention relates to propenone derivatives represented by the following formula (I): wherein R1represents hydrogen or lower alkyl; R2and R3independently represent hydrogen, lower alkyl, or substituted or unsubstituted aralkyl, or alternatively R2and R3are combined to form substituted or unsubstituted methylene or ethylene; R4represents hydrogen, hydroxy, lower alkyl, substituted or unsubstituted aralkyl, lower alkoxy, substituted or unsubstituted aralkyloxy, or halogen; and X represents substituted or unsubstituted indolyl, with the proviso that when OR3is on the position 2 or position 6 of the benzene ring, R3is not hydrogen; that when R4is on the position 2 or position 6 of the benzene ring, R4is not hydroxy; and that the combination of OR2, OR3, and R4is not 3,4-dimethoxy or 3,4,5-trimethoxy; or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
