Iodine-Mediated Coupling of Cyclic Amines with Sulfonyl Hydrazides: an Efficient Synthesis of Vinyl Sulfone Derivatives

Rong, Xiaona,Guo, Jingwen,Hu, Zheqi,Huang, Lehao,Gu, Yugui,Cai, Yuepiao,Liang, Guang,Xia, Qinqin

supporting information, p. 701 - 708 (2020/12/30)

An efficient iodine-mediated coupling of cyclic amines with sulfonyl hydrazides is reported. This transformation opens a new route to the synthesis of vinyl sulfones derivatives, which is a common structural motif in natural products and pharmaceuticals. Tentative mechanistic studies suggest that this reaction is likely to involve a radical process.

Product selective reaction controlled by the combination of palladium nanoparticles, continuous microwave irradiation, and a co-existing solid; ligand-free Buchwald-Hartwig aminationvs.aryne amination

Akiyama, Toshiki,Arai, Masayoshi,Arisawa, Mitsuhiro,Haneoka, Hitoshi,Harada, Kazuo,Murai, Kenichi,Murakami, Yosuke,Ohki, Yuuta,Ohta, Ryousuke,Sako, Makoto,Sirimangkalakitti, Natchanun,Suzuki, Takeyuki,Takahashi, Naoyuki,Takehara, Tsunayoshi,Yamada, Makito

supporting information, p. 8131 - 8137 (2021/10/29)

We have developed a continuous microwave irradiation-assisted Buchwald-Hartwig amination using our original Pd nanoparticle catalyst with a copper plate as a co-existing metal solid. In this methodology, a microwave-controlled product selectivity was achieved between Buchwald-Hartwig amination and aryne amination performed under strongly basic conditions and at a high reaction temperature, because a polar chemical species such as Ar-Pd-halogen might be activated selectively by microwave radiation. Moreover, our catalyst could be used repeatedly over 10 times, and the amount of Pd leaching could be suppressed to a low level.

Facile synthesis of hydrochar supported copper nanocatalyst for Ullmann C–N coupling reaction in water

Ge, Xin,Ge, Meng,Chen, Xinzhi,Qian, Chao,Liu, Xuemin,Zhou, Shaodong

, (2019/12/24)

The exploration of inexpensive and stable heterogeneous catalysts and application of green solvents for Ullmann C–N coupling reaction remain challenging. We present a facile fabrication of copper nanoparticles on hydrochar as prepared from natural, inexpensive and renewable chitosan together with in-situ reduction of copper salt in a one-pot hydrothermal carbonization process. The copper nanoparticles were uniformly dispersed on hydrochar by choosing block copolymer F127 as surfactant. Moreover, maleic acid was introduced to improve the hydrophilicity of hydrochar. The most active copper nanocomposite catalyst, that is, Cu/HCS-MA-F127, exhibited excellent catalytic activity for Ullmann C–N coupling reaction in water. The nature of the Cu/HCS-MA-F127 was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, TG, XRD, SEM and XPS. Moderate to excellent yields of aimed products were gained by using this catalytic strategy. Moreover, the Cu/HCS-MA-F127 catalyst can be reused by simple centrifugal recovery with a stable performance.

Palladium Complexes Based on Ylide-Functionalized Phosphines (YPhos): Broadly Applicable High-Performance Precatalysts for the Amination of Aryl Halides at Room Temperature

Tappen, Jens,Rodstein, Ilja,McGuire, Katie,Gro?johann, Angela,L?ffler, Julian,Scherpf, Thorsten,Gessner, Viktoria H.

supporting information, p. 4281 - 4288 (2020/03/13)

Palladium allyl, cinnamyl, and indenyl complexes with the ylide-substituted phosphines Cy3P+?C?(R)PCy2 (with R=Me (L1) or Ph (L2)) and Cy3P+?C?(Me)PtBu2 (L3) were prepared and applied as defined precatalysts in C?N coupling reactions. The complexes are highly active in the amination of 4-chlorotoluene with a series of different amines. Higher yields were observed with the precatalysts in comparison to the in situ generated catalysts. Changes in the ligand structures allowed for improved selectivities by shutting down β-hydride elimination or diarylation reactions. Particularly, the complexes based on L2 (joYPhos) revealed to be universal precatalysts for various amines and aryl halides. Full conversions to the desired products are reached mostly within 1 h reaction time at room temperature, thus making L2 to one of the most efficient ligands in C?N coupling reactions. The applicability of the catalysts was demonstrated for aryl chlorides, bromides and iodides together with primary and secondary aryl and alkyl amines, including gram-scale applications also with low catalyst loadings of down to 0.05 mol %. Kinetic studies further demonstrated the outstanding activity of the precatalysts with TOF over 10.000 h?1.

Metal-free late-stage C(sp2)-H functionalization of: N -aryl amines with various sodium salts

Mudithanapelli, Chandrashekar,Kim, Mi-Hyun

, p. 450 - 464 (2020/02/03)

Metal-free consecutive C(sp2)-X (X = Cl, Br, S, N) bond formations of N-aryl amines (cyclic, fused, carbamate, and aminium radicals) were achieved under mild conditions using [bis(trifluoroacetoxy)iodo]benzene (PIFA) and simple nonharmful sodium salts. This direct and selective C(sp2)-H functionalization showed excellent functional group compatibility, cost effectiveness, and late-stage applicability for the synthesis of biologically active natural products. Two mechanisms were proposed to explain the ortho- or para-preference, as well as the accelerating effect of CH3NO2

Redox-Neutral β-C(sp3)-H Functionalization of Cyclic Amines via Intermolecular Hydride Transfer

Zhou, Lan,Shen, Yao-Bin,An, Xiao-De,Li, Xian-Jiang,Li, Shuai-Shuai,Liu, Qing,Xiao, Jian

supporting information, p. 8543 - 8547 (2019/11/03)

Herein, we report the first redox-neutral and transition-metal-free β-C(sp3)-H functionalization of cyclic amines via a consecutive intermolecular hydride transfer process. A series of N-aryl pyrrolidines and N-aryl 1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyridines decorated with CF3 and carboxylic ester functionalities are directly accessed in good yields from pyrrolidines and piperidines. This work pushes forward the application of the intermolecular hydride transfer strategy in one-step assembly of molecular complexity.

Methyl-α-d-glucopyranoside as Green Ligand for Selective Copper-Catalyzed N-Arylation

Chen, Fengyang,Chen, Guoliang,Chen, Yuanguang,Du, Fangyu,Zhou, Qifan

, p. 4590 - 4600 (2019/12/11)

In the selective N-arylation of amines or azoles with aryl halidesa-, methyl-α-d-glucopyranoside (MG) was found to function as a green ligand of copper powder. In addition, nitrogen heterocyclic amine compounds can also undergo the N-arylation coupling with heterocyclic aryl chlorides. This process allows access to a variety of aromatic amines and aryl azoles under mild reaction conditions, has good tolerance, and proceeds in moderate to high yield.

Copper(ii)-catalyzed c-n coupling of aryl halides and n-nucleophiles promoted by quebrachitol or diethylene glycol

Chen, Guoliang,Chen, Yuanguang,Du, Fangyu,Fu, Yang,Wu, Ying,Zhou, Qifan

supporting information, p. 2161 - 2168 (2019/11/25)

Herein, we report the natural ligand quebrachitol (QCT) as a promoter for a Cu(II) catalyst, which is highly effective for N-Arylation of various amines and related aryl halides. A series of diarylamine derivatives were obtained in high yields by using diethylene glycol (DEG) as both ligand and solvent. The C-N coupling reactions proceed under mild conditions and exhibit good functional group tolerance.

“On Water” promoted N-arylation reactions using Cu (0)/myo-inositol catalytic system

Zhou, Qifan,Du, Fangyu,Chen, Yuanguang,Fu, Yang,Chen, Guoliang

supporting information, p. 1938 - 1941 (2019/06/24)

Myo-inositol is originally applied as a cardiovascular medicine in clinic, which can be multi-ton manufactured via extraction from the byproducts in agricultural product processing such as defatted rice bran and corn-soaking water. Herein, the application of myo-inositol (MI) as a novel versatile tridentate O-donor ligand has been first described for promoting Cu-catalyzed amination reaction in aqueous medium.

PIFA-Promoted, Solvent-Controlled Selective Functionalization of C(sp2)-H or C(sp3)-H: Nitration via C-N Bond Cleavage of CH3NO2, Cyanation, or Oxygenation in Water

Mudithanapelli, Chandrashekar,Dhorma, Lama Prema,Kim, Mi-Hyun

supporting information, (2019/05/07)

A novel nitration (via C(sp3)-N breaking/C(sp2)-N formation with CH3NO2) mediated by [bis(trifluoroacetoxy)iodo]benzene (PIFA) is described. The NO2 transfer from CH3NO2 to the aromatic group of the substrate is possible with careful selection of the solvent, NaX, and oxidant. In addition, the solvent-controlled C(sp2)-H functionalization can shift to an α-C(sp3)-H functionalization (cyanation or oxygenation) of the α-C(sp3)-H of cyclic amines.
