Iodine disulfide, also known as iodine crystals, is a chemical compound with the formula I2S2. It is a dark brown solid that is highly reactive and has a pungent odor. Iodine disulfide is most commonly used as a reagent in organic chemistry reactions to convert alcohols to alkyl iodides and in the production of certain pharmaceuticals. It is also used in the synthesis of various organic compounds and as a chemical intermediate in the manufacturing of dyes and pigments.
