2-Ketoglutaric acid Specification

2-Ketoglutaric acid, is one of two ketone derivatives of glutaric acid. With the CAS NO.328-50-7, it is also called Disodium 2-oxoglutarate; Glutaric acid, 2-oxo-, disodium salt; Pentanedioic acid, 2-oxo-, disodium salt. 2-Ketoglutaric acid is an important biological compound. It is the keto acid produced by deamination of glutamate, and is an intermediate in the Krebs cycle. In many oxygenases, 2-Ketoglutaric acid helps the reaction by being oxidized together with the main substrate. In fact, one of the α-ketoglutarate-dependent oxygenases is an O2 sensor, informing the organism the oxygen level in its environment.

Physical properties about 2-Ketoglutaric acid are: (1)ACD/LogP: -1.721; (2)ACD/LogD (pH 5.5): -5.62; (3)ACD/LogD (pH 7.4): -6.46; (4)ACD/BCF (pH 5.5): 1.00; (5)ACD/BCF (pH 7.4): 1.00; (6)ACD/KOC (pH 5.5): 1.00; (7)ACD/KOC (pH 7.4): 1.00; (8)#H bond acceptors: 5; (9)#H bond donors: 2; (10)#Freely Rotating Bonds: 4; (11)Index of Refraction: 1.494; (12)Molar Refractivity: 28.372 cm3; (13)Molar Volume: 97.44 cm3; (14)Polarizability: 11.248 10-24cm3; (15)Surface Tension: 67.9229965209961 dyne/cm; (16)Density: 1.499 g/cm3; (17)Flash Point: 177.02 °C; (18)Enthalpy of Vaporization: 64.799 kJ/mol; (19)Boiling Point: 345.615 °C at 760 mmHg
