  • We all know that milk is a kind of healthy and inexpensive kind of beverage. Many experts and scientists advocate that people, especially children and the elderly, should drink a cup of milk every day. But have you ever thought about this question? When is the best time to drink milk?

    There are always disagreements on the best time of drinking milk. According to scientists from America and Britain, milk contains two morpheuses unknown to people. One is the tryptophan which helps sleep. With this substance, a cup of milk can make you slept. The other is a natural substance similar to morphine. As a result, drinking milk in the morning will definitely make you sleepy and influence your performances during the daytime. What is worse, having milk at breakfast affects digestion and absorption, for the protein in it would only be absorbed in the forms of aminophenol after the working of stomach and intestines. Therefore, dieticians suggest us to drink milk at dusk or before sleep.

    But recently, many professionals have pointed out that drinking milk in the night will cause dryness and affect sleep. The dispute has not been and will not be settled. It is a good idea to drink milk according to your specific situation.

    Everyone knows milk is good for health. But drinking milk is not that easy. An improper way will even do harms to your body. For example, milk without processing is not allowed. And it is not suggested to drink milk together with juice. It is because that large amount of caseins, which takes up 80% of the proteins within milk, will become indigestible if it meets with acidity. Such a wrong way may even lead to indigestion or diarrhea.

    There are some other improper ways of drinking milk. The most dangerous way is to take medicine with milk. Minerals such as calcium and magnesium will combine with medicine. The combination becomes insoluble. So do not drink milk before and after one hour. It is also not scientific for people to drink cold milk. Much of the nutrition will not be absorbed by the human body when the milk is too cold. It sometimes affects the normal working of the intestines and causes laxativeness. But too hot milk is not preferred, either. A high temperature destroys the nutrition, especially proteins, in milk. Furthermore, you are not advised to drink milk and eat chocolates at the same time. The calcium will disappear when it is together with chocolates. And antioxidants do not work at that time.

    Drinking milk is wise. But drinking milk is not as easy as you think. It is helpful but we should drink it in a scientific way to fully make use of it.
