- Prevention of yellowing and embrittlement of silk by treatment with a carbamate resin and UV absorbents. Kuwahara, Akira; Nakamichi, Hiromu; Shoji, Yachiyo (Shizuoka Women's Univ., Shizuoka, Japan). Nippon Sanshigaku Zasshi, 46(6), 486-92 (Japanese) 1977. CODEN: NISZAQ. ISSN: 0037-2455. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 39 (Textiles) Silk habutae was finished with PhO2CN(CH2OH)2 (I) [64191-75-9] and a UV absorber, such as p-tert-butylphenyl salicylate [87-18-3], 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone [131-57-7], 2-hydroxy-4-n-octyloxybenzophenone [1843-05-6], 2-(2-hydroxy-5-methylphenyl)benzotriazole [2440-22-4], or 5-chloro-2-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxyphenyl)benzotriazole [3864-99-1], and yellowness, strength, and dyeability were measured after 50-250 h UV irradn. The yellowing resistance increased and moisture regain decreased with increasing I content, and the yellowing prevention by the UV absorbers was in the order of benzophenones > benzotriazoles > salicylate. Dyeability of the finished fabric decreased with increasing irradn. time, but no change was obsd. during the 1st 100 h of irradn.
- Weatherability of radiation-crosslinked, stabilized polyethylene
- Weatherability of radiation-crosslinked, stabilized polyethylene. Schaudy, Rudolf; Hubeny, Helmut; Schmitz, Ernst; Kalteis, Herbert; Proksch, Emil (Forschungszent., Inst. Chem., Seibersdorf, Austria). Ber. Oesterr. Studienges. Atomenerg., SGAE Ber. No. 2863, 42 pp. (German) 1977. CODEN: BOAEBM. ISSN: 0366-1504. DOCUMENT TYPE: Report CA Section: 36 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Low-d. polyethylene [9002-88-4] and 18 stabilizers were used to prep. 24 samples which were injection molded, crosslinked by electron radiation, and weathered for £3 y. Good protection against aging was provided only by 3 carbon blacks (Corax A, Corax P, Printex 60) and Tinuvin 327 [3864-99-1]. The gel content of the crosslinked samples was reduced during aging. Unirradiated aged moldings contained 20-30% gel, apparently because of H bonding between carboxy groups formed by oxidn.
