The sensitivity of the parasympathetic but not the sympathetic part of the baroreflex was reduced in SHR implying a differential central control of the baroreflex response similar to that obsd. during the defense reaction. Mean arterial pressure (MAP) was equally reduced by metoprolol and felodipine. Despite their different modes of action cardiovascular design was also equally affected.
