Best results are obtained when CaC2 [75-20-7] is directed to the area of the melt where the most agitation occurs. Based on a 5 tons/h iron melting rate, 2.5 lb/min or 1.66 lb/min of 1.5 or 1% CaC2 was used. The design of the system is described.
