- Polysulfones as insulators. Jones, Michael Edward Benet (Imperial Chemical Industries Ltd., Engl.). U.S. US 4008204 15 Feb 1977, 13 pp. (English). (United States of America). CODEN: USXXAM. CLASS: IC: C08G075-20. NCL: 260049000. PRIORITY: GB 62-41976 6 Nov 1962. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 36 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Arom. polysulfones were prepd. in the presence of iron compds. or SbCl5 [7647-18-9] by melting compds. contg. 2 aromatically bound sulfonyl halide groups and compds. 7705-08-0 and 60292-93-5 which are cas registry numbers of chemicals are mentioned. contg. at least two aromatically bound H atoms. Thus, two mols of diphenylether-4,4'-disulfonyl chloride were fused with 2 mols of diphenyl under N and 4 parts of freshly sublimed FeCl3 was added to give a polysulfone [30813-77-5] having a reduced viscosity of 0.15 (1% in DMF, 25.degree.). The polymer was amorphous and could be solvent cast from DMF to give transparent films. .

- Polysulfones as insulators. Jones, Michael Edward Benet (Imperial Chemical Industries Ltd., Engl.). U.S. US 4008205 15 Feb 1977, 14 pp. (English). (United States of America). CODEN: USXXAM. CLASS: IC: C08G075-20. NCL: 260049000. APPLICATION: US 62-41976 6 Nov 1962. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 36 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Arom. polysulfones were prepd. by reacting in bulk a compd. having two aromatically bound sulfonyl halide groups with a compd. having two aromatically bound hydrogen atoms in the presence of 0.05-5% SbCl5 [7647-18-9] or an iron salt. Thus, diphenyl ether-4,4'-disulfonyl chloride 1.5, benzene-1,3-disulfonyl chloride 0.5, and biphenyl two mols were fused at 90.degree. under N. After addn. of FeCl3, HCl was evolved and the temp. rose to 280.degree., thus producing a clear tough polymer [60292-90-2] with reduced viscosity 0.30. The polymer was shown to be amorphous by x-ray anal. and could be solvent cast to give strong films.
