DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 20 (History, Education, and Documentation) Claudian quadrantes have been analyzed for Fe, Ni, Cu, Ag, Sn, Sb, and Pb by x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy. The coins are the purest of any Roman coins analyzed to date. Fifteen of 99 coins were made from small, thick flans; these coins contain less Ni but more Pb, Sb, and Ag than do the 84 coins made from normal, thin flans. All the thick-flan coins were struck in A.D. 41; normal flans were used for coins struck in both A.D. 41 and 42. Compns. of the quadrantes are very similar to those of Claudian asses (a denomination of larger Cu coins) and also to Caligulan quadrantes and asses. However, the compns. are different from Tiberian coins of about A.D. 34 and Neronian coins of A. 7440-31-5 and 7440-36-0 are just another two chemicals used in this study.D. 64-66. .
