Boron trifluoride Uses

Boron trifluoride (CAS NO.7637-07-2) has been applied as dopant in ion implantation and initiates polymerisation reactions of unsaturated compounds. It is p-type dopant for epitaxially grown silicon and can be used as a catalyst in some isomerization, alkylation, esterification, condensation, Mukaiyama aldol addition, and other reactions. It could be used in sensitive neutron detectors in ionization chambers and devices to monitor radiation levels in the Earth's atmosphere and as a flux for soldering magnesium .Another, it is used to prepare diborane.

Boron trifluoride Production

Boron trifluoride (CAS NO.7637-07-2) is manufactured by the reaction of boron oxides with hydrogen fluoride:
B2O3 + 6 HF → 2 BF3 + 3 H2O
On a laboratory scale, it is produced by the thermal decomposition of diazonium salts:
PhN2BF4 → PhF + BF3 + N2

Boron trifluoride Specification

Boron trifluoride ,its cas register number is 7637-07-2. It also can be called Trifluoro Boron ; Trifluoro-borane and Fluorure de bore . It is a useful Lewis acid and a versatile building block for other boron compounds. This pungent colourless toxic gas forms white fumes in moist air.Upon contact with water, steam or when heated to decomposition, Boron trifluoride will produce toxic fluoride fumes. Incompatible with alkyl nitrates, calcium oxide. Reaction with alkali metals or alkaline earth metals (except magnesium) will cause incandescence.
