A double-ligands enabled ruthenium catalyzed C(sp2)?H arylation of dialkyl phosphines is described, which provides a straight access to aryl-substituted dialkyl phosphine ligands. The combination of 1,3-diketone and amino acid ligands is essential for this transformation. An important six-membered cycloruthenium intermediate was successfully isolated and characterized by X-ray diffraction. Mechanistic studies showed that the 1,3-diketone promoted the process of oxidative addition of cycloruthenium intermediate. Some of modified CyJohnPhos ligands exhibited highly catalytic activity in palladium catalyzed C?N bond formation. (Figure presented.).
A Tetraarylpyrrole-Based Phosphine Ligand for the Palladium-Catalyzed Amination of Aryl Chlorides
Sai, Masahiro
supporting information, p. 5422 - 5428 (2021/10/08)
A tetraarylpyrrole-based phosphine ligand L1 in combination with Pd(dba)2 provided a catalyst for the Buchwald-Hartwig amination reaction. A variety of amines were rapidly coupled with aryl chlorides at a Pd loading of 0.5 mol%. The selective monoarylation of aliphatic primary amines was achieved in the presence of 0.8 equiv. water. Comparison experiments were also conducted, which revealed that the catalytic activity of L1 is superior to representative phosphine ligands in the Pd-catalyzed C?N coupling of various amines. (Figure presented.).

A new series of hemilabile benzimidazolyl phosphines is reported. Entities in this ligand family can be easily assembled and prepared on a large scale via a simple one-pot procedure. X-ray crystallographic analyses show that the Pd metal center can coordinate in different fashions, where it relies on the size of the ?PR2group. With the same ligand scaffold, the ligand having a ?PCy2moiety displays better efficiency in expediting aromatic C-C bond-coupling reactions, while the ligand associated with a ?P-t-Bu2group, in contrast, promotes C-N bond-forming reactions.
Cu(I)–N-heterocyclic carbene-catalyzed base free C–N bond formation of arylboronic acids with amines and azoles
Zhang, Maoyuan,Xu, Zengbing,Shi, Dabin
, (2020/12/25)
A new N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) precursor of imidazolium chloride and its corresponding Cu(I)–NHC complex 1 was synthesized. The complex 1 was found to be a highly effective catalyst for Chan-Evans-Lam coupling of arylboronic acid with amines and azoles (including imidazole, pyrazole and triazole), without addition of base at room temperature. Various substituents on three substrates can be tolerated, giving the desired coupling products in good to excellent yields (62–94%). The method is practical and offers an alternative to the corresponding copper-catalyzed Chan-Evans-Lam process for the construction of C–N bonds.
Mesoionic N-heterocyclic olefin catalysed reductive functionalization of CO2for consecutiveN-methylation of amines
Das, Arpan,Maji, Subir,Mandal, Swadhin K.
, p. 12174 - 12180 (2021/09/28)
A mesoionic N-heterocyclic olefin (mNHO) was introduced as a metal-free catalyst for the reductive functionalization of CO2leading to consecutive doubleN-methylation of primary amines in the presence of 9-borabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane (9-BBN). A wide range of secondary amines and primary amines were successfully methylated under mild conditions. The catalyst sustained over six successive cycles ofN-methylation of secondary amines without compromising its activity, which encouraged us to check its efficacy towards doubleN-methylation of primary amines. Moreover, this method was utilized for the synthesis of two commercially available drug molecules. A detailed mechanistic cycle was proposed by performing a series of control reactions along with the successful characterisation of active catalytic intermediates either by single-crystal X-ray study or by NMR spectroscopic studies in association with DFT calculations.

Palladium allyl, cinnamyl, and indenyl complexes with the ylide-substituted phosphines Cy3P+?C?(R)PCy2 (with R=Me (L1) or Ph (L2)) and Cy3P+?C?(Me)PtBu2 (L3) were prepared and applied as defined precatalysts in C?N coupling reactions. The complexes are highly active in the amination of 4-chlorotoluene with a series of different amines. Higher yields were observed with the precatalysts in comparison to the in situ generated catalysts. Changes in the ligand structures allowed for improved selectivities by shutting down β-hydride elimination or diarylation reactions. Particularly, the complexes based on L2 (joYPhos) revealed to be universal precatalysts for various amines and aryl halides. Full conversions to the desired products are reached mostly within 1 h reaction time at room temperature, thus making L2 to one of the most efficient ligands in C?N coupling reactions. The applicability of the catalysts was demonstrated for aryl chlorides, bromides and iodides together with primary and secondary aryl and alkyl amines, including gram-scale applications also with low catalyst loadings of down to 0.05 mol %. Kinetic studies further demonstrated the outstanding activity of the precatalysts with TOF over 10.000 h?1.

The syntheses of a series of 1-phenyl-5-phosphino 1,2,3-triazoles are disclosed, within which, the phosphorus atom (at the 5-position of a triazole) is appended by one, two or three triazole motifs, and the valency of the phosphorus(III) atom is completed by two, one or zero ancillary (phenyl or cyclohexyl) groups respectively. This series of phosphines was compared with tricyclohexylphosphine and triphenylphosphine to study the effect of increasing the number of triazoles appended to the central phosphorus atom from zero to three triazoles. Gold(I) chloride complexes of the synthesised ligands were prepared and analysed by techniques including single-crystal X-ray diffraction structure determination. Gold(I) complexes were also prepared from 1-(2,6-dimethoxy)-phenyl-5-dicyclohexyl-phosphino 1,2,3-triazole and 1-(2,6-dimethoxy)-phenyl-5-diphenyl-phosphino 1,2,3-triazole ligands. The crystal structures thus obtained were examined using the SambVca (2.0) web tool and percentage buried volumes determined. The effectiveness of these gold(I) chloride complexes to serve as precatalysts for alkyne hydration were assessed. Furthermore, the regioselectivity of hydration of but-1-yne-1,4-diyldibenzene was probed.

A series of well-defined palladium allyl chloride pre-catalysts was synthesized using previously reported troticenyl phosphane ligands [(η7-C7H7)Ti(η5-C5H4PR2)] and [(η7-C7H6PR2)Ti(η5-C5H5)] (R = Cy, tBu) as ancillary ligands. The formation of a dimeric μ-chloro-, μ-allyl-bridged PdI species was observed with the ligand [(η7-C7H7)Ti(η5-C5H4PtBu2)], whereas L2Pd0 {L = [(η7-C7H6PtBu2)Ti(η5-C5H5)]} was formed in presence of KOtPent. In addition, the catalytic activity of the palladium allyl chloride pre-catalysts was investigated in Buchwald-Hartwig amination reactions with various aryl halogenides and N-methylaniline or morpholine. The cyclohexyl derivatives show almost no catalytic activity, whereas for the tert-butyl derivatives a significant difference could be observed, depending on whether the seven-membered ring or the five-membered ring is functionalized.
