Aromatic alcohol

Aromatic alcohols, also known as phenolic alcohols, are organic compounds characterized by having both a hydroxyl (-OH) group and an aromatic ring structure in their chemical makeup. The aromatic ring consists of alternating double and single bonds between carbon atoms, which imparts stability and unique chemical properties to these compounds. Aromatic alcohols often exhibit distinctive aromatic odors and flavors, making them valuable in perfumery and flavoring industries. They are commonly found in natural sources such as plants, where they serve roles in defense mechanisms or attraction of pollinators. Examples of aromatic alcohols include phenol (hydroxybenzene), which is a simple aromatic alcohol with a distinct medicinal odor, and tyrosol, found in olive oil and known for its antioxidant properties.
