 Democritus
  • Democritus
  • Democritus is a collection of experiments and supporting text that authors, Alex Cote, Bill Smith and Philip Lindan of Daresbury Laboratory, are intending to encourage exploration of the subject of molecular dynamics by students, teachers and the plain curious. The program is named after the Greek philosopher who first introduced the word atom. A series of Java applets comprising Democritus show the motion of a group of atoms under molecular dynamics. It is possible for users to change the temperature and the density, and study the effects this has on the system. An introduction to molecular dynamics is also provided.
