Following is one of the synthesis routes: 1,4:3,6-dianhydro-D-glucitol 5-methanesulfonate (I) (1) with piperazine (II) afforded (III), which is nitrated with fuming HNO₃ to give the nitrate ester (IV). Nicotynoylation of compound (IV) gives KW-3196.
