  • Pregnant Women Should Be Careful When Taking Medicines
  • During the pregnancy, women should be rather cautious when they are taking medicines, or the physical health of fetuses will be seriously threatened. Some women think that the traditional Chinese medicines are herbal medicines without any toxic substances and will not cause various side effects. They think that pregnant women can take such medicines safely. In fact, these herbal medicines can also cause great harmfulness, as some of them are toxic. For example, some of them can even cause abortion. According to the concrete physical situations, women should choose suitable medicines for themselves. Drugs like safflower and rhubarb can promote the blood circulation and remove the blood stasis.

When women catch a cold, they should take medicines under the guidance of doctors. The internal heat and disordered metabolism caused by the cold can stimulate the uterus and cause premature delivery and even abortion. The mortality rate of new-born babies can be increased. Therefore, it is necessary for women to prevent the disease so as to avoid such dangers. If they carelessly catch a cold, they should choose relatively safe drugs. In addition, they should drink much hot water and have adequate rest. In a word, they should avoid such diseases as far as possible so as to protect the normal growth of the fetuses.

Some pregnant women want to know that whether they can make use of the drugs for external use. In fact, the drugs for external use can also cause unnecessary harms. The toxic substances contained in such agents can be absorbed by the skin to enter the blood so as to cause the poisoning of the placenta, which can seriously endanger the nervous system of the fetuses. Therefore, the applying of these drugs should also be careful. For example, they should not apply the essential balm to the skin. The camphor contained in the essential balm can be absorbed by the human body and be integrated with the dehydrogenase of glucose phosphate. Generally speaking, the mixture is nontoxic. However, the content of the dehydrogenase of glucose phosphate contained in the bodies of pregnant women is relatively low. The extra camphor can enter the amniotic cavity through the placenta to affect the normal development of the fetuses. Some women like to apply the cream containing tretinoin to the skin to treat the diseases like vitiligo. However, it is dangerous for women to make use of tretinoin. Women should prevent this kind of substance during the pregnancy.
