For people who want to keep fit, late-night snack is poison. But many of them can not resist the temptation of late-night snack. Does eating late-night snack make people fat? What other damages can be caused by it?
There is such information everywhere: if you want to keep fit, don’t eat too much at night, especially no snack. But according to some research, people gaining weight has no absolute connection with the time of eating much food. Experts say that the reason for gaining weight is that one’s intake of calorie is far more than the consumption of calorie. Therefore, if you want to keep fit, you have to control your total calorie. So when you ask me can I eat late-night snack after a rich dinner. I will say it depends. Basically, when one has many activities and needs to consume a lot of calorie, then it is proper for him to take some. But for those office guys who are trapped in sofas after work, they’d better take no food. Otherwise, when they watch TV, eating snack, they definitely gain weight. It is worse when they go to sleep right after eating snack.
For people who often eat some food rich in fat and protein as late-night snack, they are more likely to have high levels of blood lipids which can cause too much blood cholesterol synthesized by liver. In that case, when much cholesterol accumulates in arterial walls, the atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease can occur. Meanwhile, eating too much late food for a long time stimulates the islet time and again, leading to the increase of insulin. If such a case continues, functions of beta cells which secret insulin degenerate. And thus, diabetes comes.
What’s more, too much late-night snack makes the stomach flatulent and stresses the surrounding organs. Such stress of the stomach, intestine, liver, gallbladder, gland and other organs can be transmitted to the brain which causes it active. Then the insomnia comes. And therefore, no or less late- night snack is good for health. If you do need extra-nutrition, you’d better choose carbohydrate, that is, sugar and starch because such food can improve the chemical reaction of brain indirectly and tranquilize the mind which is helpful for insomniacs.
It seems that eating late-night snack does little good to people, except for driving the hunger away. As it can cause health problems, we suggest people not have late- night snack.
