  • Recently, scientists in Australia and Finland conducted an academic review and declared vitamin C can not prevent colds. This declaration is against what we usually thought. These scientists took 23 common persons as research objects. They found people who take vitamin C don’t have less chance of catching colds than people who take placebo. At the same time, they noticed adults recover quicker when taking vitamin C. However, kids seem to have no influence. 

    When taking vitamin C, people should know there is some food they can not eat. First, you can not eat the pork liver. Vitamin C is oxidized by trace metal ions, especially copper ions. Pork liver contains a lot of copper ions (100 grams pork liver with 2.6 mg copper ions). Thus, liver pork deprives vitamin C of its functions. And lamb liver and beef liver can not be eaten too.

    Second, don’t drink milk when taking vitamin C. Milk has strong acidity and reducibility, thus oxidizing vitamin C. What’s more, milk contains much vitamin B2 which oxidizes vitamin C and is deoxidized by it. Thus, both vitamins lose their effectiveness.

    Third, don’t eat shellfish and aquatic products. There is much arsenide, a valence of 5, which is not harmful to human. However, vitamin C can change arsenide with a valence of 5 into that with a valence of 3, which is white arsenic. Thus, people can be poisoned.

    In fact, we have many simple ways to prevent colds as followings:
    First, breathe with your body. Sometimes, it becomes very cold when you are out. At that time, you’d better not crouch. You should have a deep breath and imagine the four limbs inhaling the air. In this way, you feel less cold.

    Second,rub your nape when you are in cold. If the cold air comes into your body, you can rub your nape with your hands heavily for 100 times till you sweat. Generally, sweating prevents colds.

    Third, utilize green onions, gingers and salt. If you think you have caught a cold and feel uncomfortable all over. Then you can mix 20 grams green onions, 20 grams gingers, 3 grams salt together and pound them. Wrap them with gauze and rub the chest, back, palms, ribs, chelidon and arches of the feet at the time you go to bed. You will sweat a little when sleep and feel better next day you wake up. Notice to stay warm.
