The regiospecific synthesis of 6-deoxydaunomycinone 3 and 1-hydroxy-4-demethoxy-11-deoxydaunomycinone 4 is reported: the route allows the preparation of 6-deoxy or 11-deoxyanthracyclinones through the γ or δ lactones 6 and 11.
