Acetylene Chemistry, III: A Simple Approach to Flindersine by Phase-Transfer Reaction

Reaction of 4-hydroxyquinolin-2-one (4) with 3-chloro-3-methylbut-1-yne by phase-transfer catalysis affords flindersine (3) and 2,3-dihydro-3,3-dimethyl-2-methylenefuro<3,2-c>quinolin-4-one (5), whereas indolin-2-one (4g) yields N-(1,1-dimethylprop-2-yn-1-yl)indolin-2-one (19).The reaction mechanism is discussed and studied by varying the reaction conditions.
