It has been shown that the reaction of the enaminoamide α-cyano-β-dimethylaminocrotonamide with anthranilic acid and its ethyl ester unexpectedly gives quinazoline-2,4-dione and 2-methyl-3-cyano-4-quinoline, respectively.The structures of the products were confirmed by their spectra and by direct synthesis.
