Biomometic cyclization of ambliofuran with mercury(II) triflate/N,N-dimethylaniline complex is initiated from the internal double bound (Δ⁷) in high selectivity, whereas the corresponding sulfone is cyclized from terminal (Δ¹⁵) olefin to give marginatan skeleton.
