Four 2,6-dideoxyhexoses; D-(+)-digitoxose, D-(+)-cymarose, D-(+)-olivose, and D-(-)-oleandrose have been synthesized stereo- and enentioselectively starting with (+)-(2R,3S)-1,2-epoxypent-4-en-3-ol prepared by asymmetric epoxidation of divinylcarbinol.
