Depending on the ether phosphine ligand used viz., Ph2PCH2C4H7O (a) or cyclo-(C6H11)2PCH2CH2OCH3 (b), Cl(1-) abstraction from trans-Cl2(OC)Ru(<*>)-(P<*>O) (1a, 1b) results in the formation of the cationic complex )2> (2a) or )2> (2b), respectively. 2a and 2b are of potential catalytic interest for hydrogenation reactions. 31P<1H> NMR studies on solutions of 2a reveal that only one Ru-O bond is present, which is in contrast to the solid.
