2-Methylnaphthalene was subjected to microbial oxidation by Pseudomonas putida 39D and Pseudomonas putida NCIB 9816 organisms. The structure and absolute stereochemistry of the major metabolite is reported and its use in enantioselective synthesis is indicated.
