The crystal and molecular structure of a novel oxo-centered trimetal cluster of two uraniums and one magnesium has been determined by X-ray diffraction in the hexagonal space group P6522 (No. 179); cell parameters: a = b = 17.578 (5) ?, c = 46.813 (7) ?, α = β = 90°, γ = 120°, V = 12527 (5) ?3, with R = 0.0634, Rw = 0.0575, and RG = 0.0641. A Cp* is coordinated to each of the two uraniums, and the two are connected by two bridging [CH2P(Ph)2CH2]- ligands. Chlorides bridge between each uranium and the magnesium, and the coordination sphere about magnesium is completed by two CH2=PMePh2 molecules. In addition to the μ3-oxo ligand, the two uraniums are also bridged by a μ2-oxide.
