-cis- and trans-2-Hydroxymethylcyclohexanol were cyclized with ethyl chloroacetate or ethyl 2-chloropropionate in the presence of sodium hydride to synthesize stereoisomeric perhydro-4,1-benzoxazepin-2-ones (4-9).The relative configurations and predominant conformation of the compounds prepared were confirmed by ¹H and ¹³C NMR spectroscopy.
