The reaction of the pyrrolidine enamine derived from 1-benzyl-2,5-piperidinedione with acrolein afforded a 3,6,9-trifunctionalized 2-azabicyclo<3.3.1>nonane system, which could be isolated as a stable ketone hydrate.
