A novel method for the synthesis of 8-oxo-3-thioxo-2,3,7,8-tetrahydro-1,2,4-triazolo<4,3-a>pyrazines 3 consists of an intramolecular condensation reaction of substituted 1,2,4-triazoline-3-thiones 9, which possess acetal and aminocarbonyl moieties, with 5 percent hydrochloric acid.This method is convenient by virtue of its simplicity and the good yields.
