The primary hydroxyl groups of D-glucose and 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-glucose were selectively esterified by treating the free sugars with activated eseters of peptides in the presence of imidazole, thus affording exclusively 6-O-peptidyl-D-glucopyranoses.
