Two series of new benzocyclobutenic and benzocyclenic compounds were synthesized and tested for bronchospasmolytic effects.Theophylline was used as reference.Compound 1b was found to be 12.6 to 15.8-fold more potent in vitro than theophylline and devoid of antagonistic effects towards adenosine.
