The reaction of one equivalent of dichlorophenylphosphine with two equivalents of aliphatic imines gives a mixture of 1,2-dihydro 1,2 λ³-azaphosphinines 2 and 2-oxo 1,2,4-azaphospholenes 3.Compounds 2 are the major product when the imines are prepared from amines with bulky group.The yield of azaphospholenes 3 is enhanced when the dichlorophenylphosphine is used in excess.Oxidation of azaphosphinines 2 with hydrogen peroxide gives 2-oxo 1,2-azaphosphinines 4.
