An improved route to 1,3-bis-[4-(4-aminophenoxy)-benzoyl]benzene and related compounds

The title compounds is prepared in 75% overall yield in two steps. In the first step, the entire carbon framework is assembled from readily available materials with excellent regioselectivity. The second step is a simple nitro group hydrogenation.
