Synthesis of vinyl and β-phthalimido ketones

Vinyl ketones are prepared by reaction of an aldehyde with a vinyl Grignard reagent followed by a Swern oxidation. β-Phthalimido ketones are then obtained by 1,4-addition of phthalimide.
